Kilgore’s 2025 Memorial Day observance is set for 9 a.m. Monday at the U.S. Veterans Monument at Harris Street Park.
Veteran and former Kilgore Mayor Joe T. Parker is co-organizing the annual event again this year. Young Trail Life participants will present and retire the colors May 26.
“Bob Stoner is going to be our speaker,” Parker noted. “He’s a retired Air Force Air Traffic Control person who lives here in Kilgore.
Weather permitting, the overall program will last approximately one hour with musical interludes coordinated once again by Mitzi Buck Hartfiel, who will be joined by representatives of the Kilgore College Rangerettes in singing the U.S. National Anthem.
“I’ll be singing another two songs,” Hartfield said.
“It’ll be good music,” Parker added, “I know that.”
Welcoming all comers, he reminded attendees to bring folding chairs – and umbrellas.
“Not that it’s going to rain, but if the sun comes out it’s going to be hot!”
The event will be canceled in case of inclement weather.
