First five months of 2025 surpass last year’s sales tax revenues by 9 percent

Kilgore’s outpacing last year’s sales tax collections from the state – so far in 2025, the municipality has drawn about $4.3 million from the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

That’s an increase of more than 9 percent year-to-year, about $355,000 ahead of 2024’s year-to-date in May. This month’s allocation from Comptroller Glenn Hegar and his team to Kilgore City Hall totaled $941,623.83, a 5.64 percent increase compared to May 2024.

Significantly-larger Longview is also ahead-of-schedule. Its $4.45 million allocation this month is 1.83 percent over May 2024. For the year, Kilgore’s neighbor to the north is sitting on $19,443,787 in sales tax revenues from Austin, an increase of about 2 percent on the cumulative total of January-May last year.

Hegar’s office announced its monthly allocation May 7, distributing $1.3 billion in local sales tax monies between cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts.

“These allocations are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly and sales made in January, February and March by quarterly filers.”

Statewide, May’s distribution is about 4.5 percent more than the same month last year.

Down South, Henderson’s $762,250 check for May landed about 9 percent shy of a year before. Nearby Overton, too, is lagging a bit – the community’s $41,345 check shows a 6 percent decrease compared to May 2024.
