Turnout reaches 399 in first three days of early voting

Almost 400 early voters in Kilgore cast ballots in the first three days of advance polling at Kilgore City Hall, including 272 Gregg County residents and 127 in Rusk County.

Early voting in the Spring 2025 election continues today in the council chambers at 815 N. Kilgore St. with contested races on the ballot for Kilgore ISD School Board, Kilgore College Board of Trustees and Kilgore City Council.

Polls are open until 5 p.m. Friday, April 25, then closed Saturday and Sunday. There will be two more days of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. early voting Monday and Tuesday, April 28-29, before Election Day polling Saturday, May 3, in the same location.

Daily turnout counts posted by local election officials at CityofKilgore.com show 158 voters cast ballots on the first day of early voting Tuesday, April 22, including 106 from Gregg County and 52 from Rusk County. Wednesday drew 108 voters (Gregg – 76, Rusk – 32) then Thursday says 133 (Gregg – 90, Rusk – 43).

During their March 11 session, Kilgore City Council members unanimously-appointed former Kilgore City Clerk and veteran polling official Karen Custer as presiding judge in the General Election May 3 with Josie Atchley serving as alternate judge. For the Ballot Board and Central Counting Station, the council approved Dimi Desantis as presiding judge with Patsy Whipple serving as alternate.

• All City of Kilgore ballots include the mayoral race between incumbent Ronnie Spradlin and newcomer Darrin Mallett. Place 2 City Council member Alan VanDoren is running unopposed.

• Kilgore College Central Zone residents have a three-way race to consider: candidates include Jeannie Johnson, Verenice Ordorica and Ruth F. Williams.

• In the Kilgore College North Zone, ballots include Jason Steele and Larry A. Woodfin; the latter (moving out of the district) withdrew from the race after ballots were set.

• Kilgore ISD has two contested races in addition to one unopposed candidate. Place 5 features contenders Ubaldo Meraz and Johna Tritt. For Place 6, Rachel Harrington has no opponent in her re-election bid. In Place 7, incumbent Dana Sneed faces challenger Rudy Galvan.
