The 799 early votes cast in Kilgore in late April put the community on track to outpace recent years’ totals.
There are multiple contested races on this year’s ballot including the Kilgore mayor’s seat as well as trustee positions at both Kilgore ISD and Kilgore College. Election Day runs 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3.
Last cycle, it was Kilgore ISD School Board that saw the highest number of ballots cast. Between early voting and Election Day, 944 local voters turned out in May 2024 – 13.29 percent of the 7101 registered within the City of Kilgore and the larger footprint of Kilgore ISD.
Of that total turnout, 900 voted in the school board contest, including 536 in early voting, 295 on the first Saturday in May ’24 and 69 absentee. The second most active race last year saw 777 votes cast for City Council Place 1 (484 early, 248 day-of, 45 absentee).
Early voting for this Spring 2025 election cycle began Tuesday, April 22, and continued through Tuesday, April 29 (no voting occurred Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27). All polling was centered on Kilgore City Hall at 815 N. Kilgore St.
According to the City of Kilgore’s turnout, April 29 saw the highest tally with early voters casting 170 ballots – 98 from Gregg County residents, 72 from Rusk County.
