Kilgore Rotary Club’s preparing for an ‘epic’ outreach Saturday, calling on locals to pitch in a pint and support the local blood supply.
Rotary International’s 2026 Epic Day of Service is set for Saturday, May 16, and Kilgore Rotarians have partnered with Carter BloodCare to do their part in the international effort.
Clubs around the world will be hosting a variety of projects, according to Kilgore Rotary’s Sharon Staehs. Some build porches, some build ramps, some pickup trash in their community – Kilgore aims to boost the level of life-saving blood.
The local effort will be centered on the parking lot of Midtown Plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, parking Carter BloodCare’s collection bus between Chick Fil A and Credit Union of Texas.
Local Rotarian and Chick Fil A operator Darryl Autry’s lending a hand – “He’s going to provide brownies and cookies for people who donate blood,” Staehs said, and CUTX is supporting as well – “Toni Jones (branch manager) is having their food truck there with a free meal for everybody who donates.”
Carter BloodCare will have one their regular ‘swag’ items for donors.
“They always have a blanket or a sweatshirt or something that they give away,” Staehs added.
