National Day of Prayer gathering set May 1

“No speakers, no music… just prayer!”

Organizers of this year’s National Day of Prayer ceremony in thee City of Kilgore, Texas aim to keep it simple.

The annual event’s set for noon Thursday, May 1, in the amphitheater at Kilgore City Park.

Everyone is welcome, and prayer is the only item on the itinerary, according to volunteer Jody Clements as he helps coordinate the community gathering.

Nationwide, the effort “exists to mobilize unified public prayer for America,” according to NationalDayofPrayer.org.

Set the first Thursday in May, the annual observance was established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1952 then signed into law by President Harry S Truman.
