Local sales tax allocation climbs 15.5 percent year-to-year

Kilgore’s monthly sales tax allocation from the Texas Comptroller’s Office this month showed a 15.52 percent increase compared to the prior year.

At $788,123.72, the April 2025 check — based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly — was almost $106,000 more than 12 months ago.

Down the road in Henderson, the monthly allocation showed an 18.63 percent year-to-year decrease. Longview’s check, too, was less than April 2024, a decline of 9.17 percent.

Statewide, Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he was sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $995.5 million in local sales tax allocations for April. Overall, the state’s numbers show a 3.5 percent dip from April 2024.

For the year, Kilgore’s allocation from the state is 10.06 percent more than the total at four months in to 2024.
