Friday the 13th turned out to be lucky for two pairs of officeholders at the City of Kilgore and Kilgore ISD, but there is one contested race ahead this election season.
As of the 5 p.m. Feb. 13 filing deadline for the Spring 2026 election, Kilgore City Council incumbent Daniel Gantt will face candidate Chip Hale for the Place 3 seat on the dais with Election Day polling set for Saturday, May 2.
Unchallenged in their re-election bids, Mayor Pro Tem Victor Boyd (Place 4) and Place 1 council member Randy Renshaw will begin new terms in mid-May.
As for the Kilgore ISD School Board, incumbent trustees Dereck Borders (Place 1) and Jason Smith (2) also saw no opponents file for the Spring cycle. In due course, the district will cancel its part in this season’s local polling.
The registration deadline for the upcoming vote is Thursday, April 2. Early voting begins Monday, April 20, and continues through Tuesday, April 28, ahead of Election Day polling the first Saturday in May.
Kilgore College’s next election will be in May 2027 when the current terms expire for board president Josh Edmondson (Voting Unit #3, Place 3, Central Zone – Kilgore) and trustee Kelvin Darden (Voting Unit #1, Place 1, South Zone – West Rusk)
